The Institute has limited space, time and resources for assisting with your next metal working project. Metal working skills are not required, but a good attitude and willingness to learn are. Institute regulars are available to share their knowledge and accumulated skills, but you will do the work.
Safety is paramount, full use of safety gear and practices are enthusiastically enforced. Unsafe activity will not be tolerated and lead to revocation of Institute privileges. If you are injured, the Institute will disavow any knowledge of your existence on this planet (that one’s for the lawyers).
Everyone at the Institute is responsible to provide their own raw materials, replace any consumables used (saw blades, welder wire, etc.) and clean up the work area EVERY day. Any damaged or dented Institute tools must be repaired or replaced quickly by the damager at their own expense.
Many factors determine what outside projects are accepted. The process for getting your project in the door are:
- Contact the Institute and set up a meeting
- Come and spend time on one of the work days
- See if it’s a personality fit
- Present your project, the more detailed the plans, the better
If your project is accepted, there will be a strict deadline for completion.
Acceptance and rejection of outside projects remains the sole domain of the Institute Board.
Outside project rules, time allotment, attention by Institute regulars and all other aspects are subject to arbitrary and whimsical change. Presumably you’re an adult, that doesn’t mean we are. Get over it!
