Bike Building Resources
Da bombs
Books, books, books.
How Do You Start Making Odd Bikes?
Take apart old bikes.
And Then There's Books
The number one resource for building Odd Bikes is the Atomic Zombie Extreme Machines web site. There are plans galore, believe me, when you are starting out, having step by step directions is very helpful. The simplest plan Brad has was the first bike I built.

Buy Brad’s book, Atomic Zombie's Bicycle Builder's Bonanza. It has plans for several models and a great section on how to mechanic bikes. I keep it in the Institute for quick reference when I’m building or tearing down old bikes.

Bicycle Maintenance and Repair: For Road and Mountain Bikes by Todd Downs. Just got this one, LOTS of pictures, it’s been recommended.
How About Your Local Bike Shop?
The number two resource is cultivate bike mechanic friends. Start at your local shop. This is a conflict of interest for the shop owner, working on your bike is his bread and butter. But enroll them in the fun/adventure of Odd Bikes. Spend some money on tools. Appreciate their expertise. Give them a challenging problem. Beer helps!
